A LoveLandia member has written to us with his dilemma about selecting an appropriate gift for his Russian sweetheart. He writes, "I want to offer my Russian girlfriend for Christmas, among other things, a necklace with a small stone. But, as you know, the small stone can be of different color depending if it is turquoise, or topaz, deep blue, light blue, red, transparent, or white. Similarly the jewelry can be made of gold or silver. So I would like to know the meaning in Russian culture of different colors of stones, and also the meaning of gold and silver. This is important as I don't want to make a mistake and offend her."

As some of you might already know, Tiffany, one of the world's most expensive jewelry chain, derives a large chunk of its revenue from Russia, and Russia has the largest number of Tiffany stores in the world. If you walk into a jewelry store in Moscow, Russia, even the ones that Tiffany has, you can barely more around because there are just too many people in the store. And of course, be careful when you look at the prices. You might be shocked beyond your wildest imagination.

So what type of jewelry do Russian women really like? LoveLandia member Nataly Zaretskaya from Moscow writes, "I believe Russian women tend to give importance to their own birth stone. According to the zodiac sign, which Russian woman are increasingly starting to attach a lot of importance to, there is an associated lucky stone. It is believed that it brings good luck when they have their own stone. It doesn't matter if the stone is big or small. Therefore, a man should first check her birthday, and then pick the right stone belongs. However, Russian women are very kind and it is wonderful for them to have any present, especially from lovers."

LoveLandia also finds that Russian women tend to prefer gold rather than silver. However, the latest metal of choice is platinum. Fairly expensive, but it adds a lot of beauty to a any woman. Since they do not use any jewelry at all most of the time, what they do use has to be very special.

Regarding stones, there is no clear trend, as Nataly pointed out. A typical Russian woman's jewelry box will contain several items of jewelry depending on what is suitable for specific occasions and with special dresses. The color or type or size seems to be immaterial. The trick to selecting the right gift is simple: Find something cute, expensive, and of course it better match her zodiac sign.

LoveLandia Jewelry is trying to help people find out more about different types of jewelry, about history of this artcraft, about symbols and other helpful hints. Enjoy your reading!
