Valentines Day and other holidays in RussiaSubmitted by Joshua Collin
New Year (January, 1) and Christmas (January, 7)
Exactly in this order: Communists break the tradition to celebrate Christmas, and Russian's main holiday is now New Year. It's a cozy home holiday, when all family gathers at the table. They eat salads, a cake, mandarins and other fruits, drink champagne. Some families like to walk in the city during New Year night. There is illumination and large Christmas trees in the squares. At 12 p.m. they launch fireworks; people give each other gifts and wish Happy New Year. At about 2-3 a.m. most people return home and fall asleep.
