goodby is never permanent

i had one moment to remember
and lifetime to forget.
i knew that things would never be the same.

a cord had been broken.
a knot, untied.
and just like that,
you were gone.

it took only a second to learn to love you,
but it will take forever to say good-bye.

and yet, as this pen hits this paper,
with each stroke i am more certain,
that i know it isn't over.

someday i'll hear you laugh again.
together, we'll sit and cry.
and even now, i know for sure,
i'll always keep you in my heart.

so, good-bye is never permanent.
"i'll love you always," is the truth.
and now, i close my eyes and smile,
because i know i get another chance to do it right.
