 | Alcohol like water – a universal conduit;
now brings forth the hearts deepest truths
without question to will or consequence -
as playful friends remember their youth.
Their feelings left behind in time’s icy grip;
they now contemplate what it was they felt –
so many moons ago and remember love, as
both feeling and attraction catch up to melt.
Caught staring at one another - they now watch
without protest; indulging in fantasy’s romance,
and moving closer - still; their lips embrace for
a moment, before she’s quick to take a stance.
“Stop. No more…” she says both robbing
herself and him of what they know is there
and pulls away from him and love – with mind
struggling to silence the heart of all care.
She disappears out the door like a shadow
fading into the night - right before his eyes,
but knowing she felt it too - he sulks; being
left with nothing, but the echoes of her lies.
And again he is thrown into the world of his
nostalgic dreams; wishing he still had his lover
by his side and in his arms, and wishing that
she hadn’t left him. Just like he once left her.
Meanwhile, she walks down the street - alone;
wishing her dream of love would come true,
but knowing he’ll only just run away without
her again - as fearful dreamers will do. | |
