That's a tough one. But the best answer I can think of is TIME: With regard to love....time is the best measure, because all truth is revealed in time.
The other is Acts or Actions. Not the type that are self-serving...but the little acts that show true and gentle caring....such as kissing you while you're asleep, saving you the last french fry, opening a door for you, noticing if you appear sad, smiling at the mere sight of you, gently caring for you in little ways.
In TIME your heart will know the truth. But the one thing that we know is true....we cannot assure how others will treat us. But we can affect the way we treat them. If you treat people kind...no matter how it turns out...you can keep your dignity even if your true love has been squandered. And if this happens...and you've been hurt....have no fear: God will shine happiness upon you eventually and these hurts only serve to help us appreciate true love more. : )
