The Prince that never was

Wretched writhing searching
in circles in perfect form
and cannot see the center
from sleeps abyss
where it is bourne.

Ceaseless restless grasping
cannot see the lines converge
exhausted strained and gasping
yet nothing new is learned.

sleep with one eye open
sleep with all that is ones fate
and death the far off landscape
fears well laid trap awaits.

And minds incessent binding ropes
hang like instruments of torture
bound regrets and future hopes
that miss the mark by nature pure.

Purpose unrevealed in shadows stalking
meaning lost the words are talking
Somehow in the frieght train lines
I had forgotten I must dream.

And when you found me I lay dying
imagined I was living free
I could not hear the angels crying
the day you came for me.

Wretched and writhing little faith
all the blood drawn from my face
Forgiveness was forgotten lore
gratitude was my forlorn.

Love an empty selfish shell
in it's dark hands I had known Hell
for all misguided tendencies
all of these you know me well.

Still and silence unabating
relieved but sure you have been waiting
and watched me build my castle
in the shifting desert sands.

This King who walks the empty halls
corridors whose walls must fall
Illusion clinging for dear life
to a Prince that never was.
