 | Street Wise
A cool misty air awakening One breath of freshness I realize, Will not suffice
I listen to hostility since my escape The portals in my hell Are paying for my absence
The tirade rages on And I feel as if the sky Is trembling with me As we both begin To weep our rain
"Cruelty is waiting" I say out loud
I hear a voice respond, "Then let it wait"
I quickly turn, to see a man Smiling at me, and calling me lass While motioning with his head Towards freedom
"Let's walk Poll" I am mesmerized As I gaze towards His destination of peace And compassion
This gray mirror tempts me I tell myself it's only the street And even though, I know that it is not -
I understand that it is safe
I reach my arm Back into the fire And the anxiety From my stupidity Is brought mercifully To an abrupt end Upon the withdraw Of my umbrella
And as he takes it From my shaking hands I hear his voice Upon my ear, whispering "Un paraguas, muy bien"
Silence walks with us for a while Until we come upon some luck Which we spot at the same time He reaches the penny in the street first But only because he pushes me
I wanted to cry, For from his touch There came no pain
Or threats...
Just laughter
And as his hand came towards me I did not flinch Softly, I can feel him Touching behind my ear Then he holds the penny Before my eyes
But never says...
A Penny for your thoughts
For Pennies from the street are wise
And knowing
