Red Faces

Wear the red
And remember those
Who died so you could live
My name is Christopher
I did not choose
My life to you to give

But I was sent
To play war games
Under a sky of blue
When my days turned cold
And nights got long
Why did I think of you?

Do not dismiss me
Because I was born
A century too late
But think of me
And know my name
You child of sin and hate

My hawks were metal
With shining bod
Yours were flesh and blood
My toys were rifles
All hard and cold
Yours were made of wood

When I was shot
Did you call my name
And rush to help me rise?
Or on the same day
A century away
Did you gaze at the cloudless skies?

So when you wear
Small dark red bloom
With its face and blackened eye
Remember when I fell
And spilt my blood
So you could wear it on your tie
bad
5
good
