Pale Stagnant Skies

I look up at the pale stagnant skies
to see no thunder brewing.
I contemplate over younger days
so vividly filled with colour.
In time, memories have faded in-
to these black and white photographs.
Who knew such fun and sweet delight
would soon become so sour?

We were kids above the moon in
passion and ecstasy for another.
Where did we stumble? I still don’t know,
but what I know is this:
We had our hearts set on our dreams,
rushing ahead with this love.
And our hearts sang to each other in-
different of another’s weakness.

But with each passing battle -
testing; a brutal blow was dealt.
And as we fought with all our might
it just wasn’t meant to be.
Differences got the better of us
and our hearts survived a war.
But with too many scars; we
broke apart - in tragedy.

Sensations of emotion echo subtle;
in to the deep of night.
Such memories more recent; now
become fewer in their number.
Oh, how the nostalgia is quick
to wash up over mine tongue
and leave its bitter, sweet aftertaste
of a memory - no longer.

The night skies littered with brilliant stars -
are no more, here.
Just the hollow moon remains
staring down at weary men.
And I’m left here befriending
my melancholy and nostalgia.
Will I ever find a love, passion
or dream like that again?

The past so rigidly unchanged, yet
yesterday seems forever ago.
And with pale stagnant skies
I’m yet to see the sun or thunder.
Nothing lies ahead,
but rains of melancholy tide - eroding me -
and winds howling the name
of the one I’ll always remember.
