NO!

NO! We hear it a lot, as we go through our lives.
I heard it constantly, from both my ex-wives.
It’s the negative answer, a little two lettered word.
And the most powerful one, I’ve ever heard.

NO! Can be the first words, the baby might say.
Because Mommy and Daddy, repeat it each day.
A word you shout in disbelief.
Or repeat to yourself, in a moment of grief.

NO running!
NO jumping!
NO food or drink!
NO sunning!
NO dumping!
NO MORE! I can’t think!

NO! Is what I said, when you wanted me out.
It was your answer, when I asked, “Can’t we work this out?”
NO! Was your answer, time and again.
And no. I don’t think we can still be friends…
