Sounds trite but in the end it’s right

Make peace, not fight

Say a prayer to God for someone each night

Before turning off the light

Try to treat your fellow neighbor right

Be brave to teach the children

wrong from right

Don't criticize, lest you dim their bright

Don't satisfy their every desire

or fuel their selfish fire

Try to build in them a gentle flame

One that seeks fulfillment rather than fame

Humility, rather than a glorified name

Don't push too hard or twist their brain

Because wouldn't it be a shame

If their talent and heart was all in vain

Teach them to walk peacefully

In either the sun or the rain

Feed their heart with goodness

From the start

For of the world, they'll be a part

Don't chastise them if they're less than smart

Don't build them too tall or break them apart

Just give them tenderness and care

Teach them how to give and share

They'll be your legacy

And in them, a piece of you will always be there

A lingering reflection of your love and care
