Lantern

I'm looking out across my window view...

All the city lights shining

like little childrens tear filled eyes

both glisten so.


The apartment building thats across the ways

has most windows lighted...

I look at nearly everyone

almost in a searching way...

but just what im searchin for I have no idea


One shows a family sittin down to dinner, happy as can be

another of a man who sits alone watching TV... with tears dripping

into his hands....

a woman and her man fightin again...

a writer lookin out to see what inspiration might have been...


I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one lookin out and trying to

search for something...

the stars are shining bright like diamonds... and the moon is they're protector...

like a shepard to his sheep

a mother to her child...


A light catchs my corner view...

an ordinary light, like any other

but whats different is the person silouetted

by its glow...


He looks at me and I him...

A smile seems to creep at the corners of my mouth...

And he smiles back....


And with that smile I felt complete in some unexplainable way...

Almost as if that was what I was searching for...

A smile in the dark... like a joke between stangers

without words

without worry

with a smile all feels saved.


Like a latern in a dark room.

or a first kiss.

or the diamonds in the sky.
