My redneck Summer 2006

When you think of the highlights of summer for most people, probably no school, sleeping in, getting a tan, going to the beach, swimming, and cookouts come to your mind. All this is what you should think when you think of summer for a normal person but not when you think of my summer. The highlights of my summer consisted of 2 band camps, riding in the golf cart at 100 miles an hour, and falling in love with my dream guy. These events turned summer 06 into the best summer imaginable for me. Lets start out with my band camps. This summer I went to 2 amazing band camps. First I went to McDaniel College Band Camp in Westminster MD for the second summer in a row for a week. To be honest the only negative thing that I can say about that week at camp is that I totally screwed up my tryout and I got in the lower band for a second year in a row but I ended up getting a solo on the b*ss clarinet which was pretty sweet. Now I know what you're thinking, what could possibly be so fun about band camp I mean all you do is sit there and play your interment right? Wrong!!! You get to meet amazing new people!!! You may think big deal I get to meet new faces every day. But you don’t get to meet the average band geek every day. Oh, and they are not band nerds… Band geeks people gosh! I am telling you… I think that band geeks are the most amazing people that I have ever met in my life (considering I am one). At band camp I had so many amazing times with them!!! Okay here are some stories about what happened at band camp I learned how to do the tango and the waltz, I witnessed 2 of my friends getting knee injuries doing the limbo (don’t ask), I spent over $30 dollars playing fosse ball and pool, I learned how to hypnotize people, and I feel in love with one of my best friends from there. Well for the rest as they say, ”What happens at band camp stays at band camp.” Yeah well a lot happened that is going to stay at band camp. In the conclusion of McDaniel College, I made a lot of good friends and I ended up falling in with the most amazing guy in the world…. Trevor Rill. I love that guy so much that it can’t be put into words. Don’t worry; I will get back to him later. Moving on, towards the end of the summer I went to marching band camp for 2 weeks. That was pretty sweet too. I now have 2 new best friends from marching band, Niall and Ashley. I love them to death. Before I get off the topic of band camps, I would like to point out that they were incredible experiences and I am so ready to go back to them next year. To continue, the golf cart. Oh my god I have so much to say about that golf cart that this will be hard to put in to words First of all, the golf has 3 main riders; me, and my best friends Ashley and Amy. The first golf cart story go something like this…. My friend Ashley and I were driving the golf cart around the farm. We probably had driven it around the farm at least like 5 times and we live on a 104-acre farm so yeah that is pretty big. We came back from our little mission and we had ended up losing one of Ashley’s $20 flip-flops from Hollister, which was not good. I know that some people may not find it amusing listening to a story about finding a flip –flop. Just imagine driving around a huge 104-acre farm looking for a little flip-flop. Well we never did find it. I kind of expected that we wouldn’t. But about a month or so later my brother Sam was mowing and he said that he hit a golden shoe with a mower. Low and be hold it was Ashley’s flip-flop. Sucks for her. Moving on, Amy and I probably had the best times on the golf cart out of anyone. Every chance we could when she came over we would do something we liked to call, “Congregating with the Christians”. You wonder, “Who were the Christians”? They were the people that inhabited summit grove camp, the Christian camp that is behind our farm. We would ride by in the golf cart and scream random things at the like hi sexy, hell ya Christians, or we love Jesus. Also we would sing the song Redneck Woman. Speaking of songs, Amy and I took the song showstopper and made a remix called farm stoppers. Wow, it is an amazing song. The lyrics so explain our times on the golf cart. The Christians would stare back and look at us like we were nuts but it was so worth it! Oh my god Amy and I are so going to hell about what we said to the Christians. Ha, ha. Besides “congregating with the Christians”, we made up a golf cart roller coaster called “the farm”. It is the big hill behind the pond. We would come down that hill as fast as we could go on the golf cart. I am surprised we didn’t flip the thing going down that hill. Good times. At the end of summer, I had this party over the summer and I was driving the golf cart with my friends Niall, Ashley C, and Ashley M. Ashley C. almost fell off the golf cart and my friend Niall was yelling at me the whole time, “Brooke, keep your eyes on the road!” He told me after we were done driving that once I got my driver’s license he would burn it! I really don’t blame him. I got this priceless picture of all of us riding in the golf cart and it is so funny cause I am not looking at the road and Niall has this priceless look on his face (he is probably saying, “Brooke, watch the road!”). Yeah my friends and I were the redneck gangsters from the country hood during the summer. Moving away from golf carts lets move on to the next topic, which is falling in love with my dream guy. Earlier in the story I mentioned Trevor Rill. I met him at band camp my first year. That year I really liked him a lot but I didn’t tell him. This year at band camp we reacquainted and became very good friends. I began to like him again but I didn’t tell him cause I thought that he didn’t like me like that. I was thinking why ruin a good friendship by telling him I liked him and he didn’t like me? So I just kept I liked him to myself. But the last night of band camp (June 30th to be exact) he spilled the beans. We were sitting under the stars and he asked me when our friends weren’t looking if he could kiss me. I was like waiting for him to say that to me all week and I wanted to say, “Well duh you can.” I wanted to say but instead of being a jerk and ruining the moment I said “sure.” It was amazing. Gosh, I didn’t even know you liked me. I mean I was sitting with the guy that I had been in love with all week and apparently he had been in love with me too. What a night! He is the sweetest guy I have ever met. He told me beautiful before I left the camp the next day. I wanted to cry right then and there but I didn’t. We ended up hanging out 3 times over the summer and as of July 28th we began to go out. It has almost been 2 months and what an amazing 2 months it has been. So much has happened between us since then. I have never been so happy in my life. We have so much in common that it isn’t funny. Trevor Rill is the kind of guy that I have been looking for my whole life. I would die for him if I had to. Besides my boyfriend, he is one of my best friends too. I have a feeling that if any thing happens between us that we still be friends, which is a good. Sometimes, I worry that he doesn’t know how much I love him but I love him more than he will ever know. I have so much more to say about Trevor but I am going to shut up now about him because as Trevor and I say, “What happens on the farm, stays on the farm.” A lot is of stuff happened that I think should be left unwritten. Now don’t you worry. Nothing bad happened. What happened was just great! Well that was my redneck summer 2006! You are probably thinking all you did was go to 2 band camps, drive a golf cart around, and fall in love with a guy? Well other stuff happened to like I got an awesome tan, I went to Pocono mountains to go white water rafting, I went to North Carolina, we had puppies over the summer, I wrote 6 love poems and 2 stories, and I hung out with my friends. In conclusion this was the best summer I ever had. This summer shall never be forgotten. What happens in summer 06 stays in summer 06! Goodbye summer, and hello fall.
