Busy streets – peopled with people.
Fancy clothes top to bottom.
Fingers with cigarettes; shoes with labels.
Pierced ears, nose and navel.
Modish lingo and harmless swearing.
All a mask – what they are wearing.
A mask they judged; a mask they denied
Or a mask they developed a like.
A surface overly decorated,
What’s beneath – sordidly covered.
Lost themselves in the facade they did
The mask erased what’s real within.
Pitiful delusion
A blessing: they were in confusion.
