John Travolta

John Joseph Travolta was born February 18, 1954 in a small town Inglewood, New Jersey. His father, Salvatore Travolta, ex-football player was engaged in spare sales to feed a big family. John was the youngest among six children. John’s mother, Helen Travolta, was an actress teaching acting technique. Since early years parents were trying to get children interested in theatre, music and cinematography. Their father has even built a small stage so that Helen could teach the kids acting techniques. Thus three of six children became actors but the most talented was John. As a six year old boy he took dance classes at legendary school of Jin Kelly-Fred.

However, John wasn’t certain about his future profession. As a kid he always wanted to become a pilot. Not far from their house was US Air Forces base where John watched the military planes take off and land. Travolta collected planes and once had visited military barns where he learned their lifestyle. He preferred acting to military service. From that moment on he wanted to become famous, make millions and buy his own private jet to enjoy flying.

When he came to New York he got roles in popular theatrical plays and in 1975 was invited to play in television series “Welcome back, Kotter!” The same year John Travolta made his debut on the big screen but glory came to him after triumphal premiers “Saturday Night Fever” (1977) and “Brioline” (1978). He was nominated as the best Brooklyn disco dancer.

During shooting “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” in 1976 John fell in love with Diane Hyland – a mother of his hero. Eighteen years age difference wasn’t an obstacle for their relationship. In a year John became a widower - Diane had cancer. A little later John’s mother also died from cancer. The death of two closest people unsettled him out of his life for about 10 years. During 80-s John Travolta overdid with alcohol and stopped shooting in movies. The only movie of that grieving period was “Blow Out” (1981).

Travolta was picked up by the end of 1980-s, when he showed up in “Look, Who’s Talking” during which he met his future wife – actress Kelly Preston. Since that moment his life was filled with love and success.

His meeting with Quentin Tarantino, the one who was able to resuscitate from creative crisis, let John become one of the brightest stars of 90-s. For his gangster role of Vincent Vega in “Pulp Fiction” he was nominated for Oscar, while the twist he danced with Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) became the most popular dance of the last decade of XX century. He was paid 150 thousand dollars but eventually he rose it till 10 million dollars due to his talent. By year 1996 John Travolta is paid 17-21 million dollars per a movie. Success followed by success.

He became a cult actor and was getting numerous paying propositions like “Get Shorty” (1995), “Broken Arrow” (1996), “Face/Off” (1997), “Swordfish” (2001) – this is only a shortened list of his famous works.

In year 2000, Travolta produced a movie “Battlefield Earth”, based on a story by famous guru Khabbard.

Now Travolta is one of the most high-paid Hollywood actor. He realized his dream of becoming a pilot and purchasing three reactive jets and “Boeing-707”.
