Anniversary

Max and Cheska had a date at Cheska’s house. Her parents were out of town, and Max brought a little cake, because it was their first anniversary…
Max is waiting at the doorstep of a beautiful house in a beautiful subdivision. A year had passed and he was still nervous. “Who will open the door? He thought. (Of course Cheska) “How do I look?” (Don’t worry. You look great.)
After tapping three times lightly on the door, a beautiful sweet voice was heard from the house. The voice said: “Just a minute!” It was Cheska, Max’s girlfriend. Cheska hurriedly takes off her apron, throws it on a chair, and goes to open the door.
“Happy Anniversary!” Max greeted, he was holding up the cake. “Look, I brought us a cake!” “Wow, it’s really…cute.” Said Cheska. (The cake Max had brought looked more like a cupcake by Magnolia.) “Well I knew you were going to cook anyway....” Said Max. He kissed her as he came in. “Uhuuummm…just get in, thank you.”
Max took of his jacket while Cheska went back to the kitchen. Max looks at the picture frames in the living room. There were some pictures of her and her family. There were also some, of her and him. He saw the ones when they were first starting as a couple. Max took one, and looked at it. It was a picture taken by Cheska’s father. They were eating ice cream that day, and it showed him and her close together with their arms around each other, they had ice cream dabbed on their noses and cheeks. He smiles…

Max put back down the picture frame, and he goes to look for Cheska…

Quietly, he sneaks up behind her and says, “Boo.” Cheska was startled and was surprised. Max was like a little child hugging her, thanking her for being so sweet and caring to him. Cheska smiles and pats his hands that were wrapped around her tightly.

“What are you cooking?” Asks Max.
“Spaghetti, sinigang and homemade pizza.”
“Ding!” The oven announced thee audience that the pizza was ready. Cheska goes to get it.
“It's actually funny, I don't know why these are your favorites, maybe because they're my favorites too!
Max leaned on the counter with one hand and said to her. “You’re right! You’re absolutely right! Thanks hon!”
Cheska giggles as he was being sarcastic to her being mayabang.
“Don't thank me, help me." Cheska gives him some dishes to carry the spaghetti to the table. “Place them over there on the table.”
Max scoops the spaghetti with a sp*on and puts it all on the plate. “So much!” He says happily. Cheska smiles.
He places it on the table.
Then, he gets some more plates (for them) and some spoons and forks and sets them too on the table. “Don’t forget the napkins!” Cheska hands some from a drawer. Max does as what he’s told.

After Max did all that was assigned to him, he looks at the table and puts his fists on his hip, feeling like he had done a major task very well.
Then he turns to Cheska, “Are we ready baby?”
Cheska, who was leaning on the counter the whole time, giggles at how cute her boyfriend was being.
And just as she leaned off the counter, a strange noise was heard.
“BUUuuumm.” (It came with the lights turning off.)
“Uh-oh.” Said Max.
“Hay naku, how unlucky!” Said Cheska.
They couldn’t see a thing; it was really dark for it was night already.
“Where are you?” Said Max. He was stretching his arms to look for her.
Cheska thinks of playing around and moves away to hide. She giggles as she does. “Cheska, where are you?” Max cried in earnest.
“Find me!” Cheska acted like a little kid.
“Oh, we’re going to play a game first huh? OK then this'll work an appetitie.”
Max tries to find her in the dark, but Cheska keeps moving away. She guides herself around the table; but Max keeps bumping into the chairs. (Bug! “Ow!”)
Cheska laughs because he couldn’t find her.
“Just wait until I catch you!” Said Max. Cheska covers her mouth to avoid being heard. Max moves cautiously closer toward her. Cheska crouches down so he wouldn’t feel her with his arms. But as soon as she felt he was already near…
“Ahhh!”
“Gotcha!”
Cheska tries to get away but Max had already caught her.
“Now you can't get away.” Said Max as he held her by the waist.
“But you can't see my blind lover..."
It was so dark; they couldn’t have eye contact with each other. It was like two blind people in love.
“You have a point but I can still do this...” Max leans forward to kiss her. But Cheska leans away. Then, at a forty-five degree angle, she stops his lips from reaching her and says: “WOops! Game over!”
“So soon?…”
“I win.” Cheska says as she goes to find some candles. (She guides her way to the cupboards.)
“Your day will come Cheska, Your day will coooomme!” Max shakes his fist in the dark.

When Cheska had the candles, she asked Max a question.
“Hmmmmm…honey, do you have a lighter?”
“Ha? Ah,yes, it's here.” Max moves toward her getting his lighter from his pocket.
“Caught you!!! You're still smoking!”
Max puts his lighter back.
“Huh? I don't know what you're talking about.”
Cheska reaches out at him and feels for his pocket. It was on his left side.
“O, here!” Cheska says as she presses it again and again.
“Gasp! Is this yet another game? Press the Button by Pcd?”
And Max presses on Cheska’s body tickling her.
“Haha! Max! I don't wanna play anymore!”
“You're the one who made this game.”
“Yeah and you're smoking.”
Max pushed out his lower lip.
(Even though Cheska couldn’t see, she knew he was doing his “puppydog” face again.)
“Enough of those okay?”
“Opo…”

Max lighted the candles for Cheska, and there, there was light again.
Max gave out a loud cry, “Yooohoooo!” as if he had made fire.
Cheska let the candles stand on the table. The table was long and big but she only put one on one side, and the other on the other.
Max and Cheska were finally ready to have their anniversary dinner, celebrating one year of still being together.
Max pulled out Cheska’s chair for her. “Thank you!” She said sitting down. Max went to the other side, across one of the candles and sat himself in.
“Oh, we have nothing to drink!” Said Cheska. Max goes to the fridge and gets out two sodas.
“I knew you knew that was there.” Said Cheska.
“It's one thing I love about your place.” He opened one for her.
“What’s the other one?” (Cheska smiles.)
Max pretends to look around.
Cheska turns her eyes on her plate fiddling her spaghetti with her fork.
Then Max looks at her again.
Cheska looks at him waiting for an answer.
“…Nice candles.” He says.
Cheska laughs. She gets up to serve the food. As she does, Max holds her hand and says, “Baby it’s you.”
Both laugh even more.
Cheska cries “Max..?”
Max has his food and Cheska has her’s.
But still Max was being playful. He gets his soda and holds it up.
Cheska does the same.
Then Max said: “Baby, it’s you.”
And again Cheska laughed.
But Max knew she was just being nice and he knew what she really wanted.
Max became serious and put down his soda.
Cheska looked at him.
“Actually, it’s you I love the most here, I love you the most anywhere.
(Cheska: “…”)
I never thought we would last one year, guys are like that, we never expect. But when that time comes, we’re so thankful that someone loves us, so much, like you...”
Cheska wanted to cry.
“And we want to thank you so much that all we can say is, ‘Max stood up and went behind her,’ I love you…”
He hugged her…
Cheska held his arm wrapped tightly around her. And for a brief moment they were silent, until…
“Honey, you can put that down now.”
And Cheska laughed hard again. (For the whole time Max was talking, she still held her soda up.) Cheska giggled as she put it down.

Max went back to his seat, and the two ate their dinner with a happy air… And that was The End.
