I Need a Good Friend Like You

Gazing upon your smiling face
We're together in a senseless place
Bright eyes shine in you
And all your love does too
Gazing into darkness but knowing you are there
Feeling you touch me softly whenever I am scared
Loneliness sweeps over but you are lonely too
And these are the starting reasons I love you
Not a love like a husband or wife but a love of a friend
I know won't end
You hug me tight when I am scared
But still you're never really there
But when you were here we had something more
Looking to the future not knowing what’s in store
I remember the times we laid on the sand
When we talked about our life plans
We talked about how we'd always be friends
To the death and to the end
We said when we grew up we'd be roommate
Like in all those movies we had seen
I guess that's what it could have been
But I still feel like a roommate with you cause when I lay in bed
I can feel you pushing my hair back then kissing me on the head
I never cried after you went
Cause I still feel you in my heart playing such a big part
I can imagine you looking down on me and telling me to be happy
Telling me death is a part of life and it happens all the time
Giving me a hug telling me it will be fine
I take my breath and remember what you used to say to me
About how in heaven everyone would be happy
But as days went on I questioned if that's where you had gone
But still I didn't know so I held on and stayed strong
I want you to know wherever you are I miss you oh so much
And in my soul there is something you've touched
Leaving a mark of kindness and love
The kind that comes from up above
You held me like I held you and you were as good a friend as I was to you
I hope your safe wherever you are and I really want you to come back
Cause I miss you....and that’s a fact!
I know wherever you are you're thinking of me and I'll always be thinking of you...
I really want you to come on home cause I need a good friend like you.
