We started out as lovers
and then became good friends
I'm sorry you must discover
that this is where it ends.
Our time together has been brief
but oh so very sweet
I just can't seem to stomach the grief
every time we meet.

You said we'd always be good friends
I hope that this is true
For I don't want to go a day
without talking to you.

Thoughts of you dance through my head
each and every day
But knowing you're with her instead
I know I can not stay.

We started out as lovers
still hoping we can be friends
I just need time to recover
so that my broken heart mends.
