The Heat

The heat engulfing me is a mystery
Could it be the summer swelter?
Sweat drips from my steaming body
Sticky skin and ruby cheeks
My desperation from perspiration
But more that makes me flushed
What is combusting in my brain?
My head spins and sparks with thoughts
Pulsing temples of feverish uncertainty
Caloricity develops out of curiosity

The intensity of hot emotion
What so vehemently stirs my flame?
Zeal ignited by feelings of want
My uprising of emotiveness
The maddening fire of desire

Arousal of the mind, body, and soul
Is it the fervor of love?
Excited spirit throbbing from the blaze
All is known from the light burning bright
Passion begins with satisfaction

Love inspires the heat, but love is too heat’s antidote
